Music
has been an integral part of Korean culture, therefore instruments have always had been
great importance.
During the rule of Queen Chinduk of Shilla Kingdom of Koryo (918~1392 A.D), there two national music institutes, Chonakso and Taeakso. These two institutes were combined as Askso in the first part of the Choson Dynasty (1392~1910 A.D) and renamed Changakwon, a name that was retained until the end of the Choson Dynasty. These institutes were responsible for all music song and dance performed at major national celebrations and for the training of musicians and composition new through each different dynasty.
